Music Therapy
Music is its own language that allows people to communicate, feel, and experience together on an equal level without using words and is good for kids in so many ways: it engages them, calms them, gets them moving, and unites them. This interactive presentation will include practical tips for using music, movement & mindfulness to connect with students of all ages. The presentation portion will be followed by a musical performance that will blend Anna’s songs with Heather’s traditional fiddle playing, and include a mix of upbeat and playful tunes, along with some more mindful and therapeutic songs. No musical experience necessary!

Anna & Heather Anna and Heather met over 20 years ago while studying music therapy at Acadia University where they developed their skills in using music to motivate, inspire, heal, and connect.

Anna Plaskett, BMus, CMT, MTA  Anna is a musician and music therapist based in Punamu'kwati'jk/Dartmouth. She has played and sung backup with numerous recording artists over the past 20 years and released her debut solo children’s album “To the Moon and Back” in 2017. In her music therapy practice, Anna works towards helping people of all ages and levels of ability to experience the power of making and responding to music to tap into the wellness that exists within themselves.

Heather Cameron, BA, CMT, MTA  Heather was brought up surrounded by music in Pictou County. The fiddle, guitar, bagpipes and piano soon became her constant companions, and early on she developed her beautiful, soulful voice. Heather knew well the power of music to reach people, which led her to study music therapy. This brought her out west, where she further developed her playing and therapy skills before returning home to Nova Scotia in 2015. Heather released her debut full-length album ‘Neverland’, a collaboration with J.P. Cormier, in 2018.
