Any release of information requires signed consent from all individuals involved who are over the age of 12, except where disclosure is required by law (e.g., court subpoena or legislation).

Early Intervention Program (EIP)

The Early Intervention Program (EIP) supports NSTU members who are working or on paid sick leave and experiencing illness or injury. The intent of the program is to provide encouragement, support, and opportunities for active participation to promote early recovery and return to work, or facilitate early application for disability benefits when necessary.

Intervention may include:

  • Access of appropriate treatment (i.e. medical, vocational & rehab services)
  • Coordination of health services (e.g., physician, therapist, counsellor, chiropractor)
  • Facilitating the return-to-work or remain-at-work plans
  • Guidance through the process and application for disability benefits

The EIP Staff are registered Occupational Therapists and employees of the Nova Scotia Teachers' Union. All EIP services are voluntary, confidential and require the consent and participation of the client, regardless of the referring circumstances.

EIP Assessments are by appointment only and are offered at mutually agreed-upon times and locations throughout the province. These services are provided at no additional cost to NSTU members.
