CTF Perspectives June 2017

Celebrating anniversaries is the theme of this issue of Perspectives. Although Canada, as a confederation, is celebrating its 150th anniversary, one must not forget that our First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples were here long before us, for at least 15,000 years. One of our articles underscores the importance of understanding our collective history in order to move forward for equity and justice for Indigenous Peoples.

CTF President Heather Smith offers her perspective on how teaching has changed over the years and, during her career. For her part, Secretary General Cassie Hallett looks ahead to 2020 at which time CTF celebrates its 100th anniversary.

Our feature article by researcher Bernie Froese-Germain reflects on the future of public education and offers eight big ideas on what kind of public education system we need to support the vision of an inclusive, equitable, sustainable, prosperous Canada.

Other articles highlight the 55th anniversary of the CTF International Program, the Daughters of the Vote event that marked the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, and the evolution of French-language education in Canada.

Happy reading of our 25th issue as you celebrate the joys of summer!
