The Interview Process

Every interview is unique—different teams, different positions, and different expectations. The key is to be prepared, adaptable, and professional throughout the experience.

In Preparation: Ask the Right Questions

  • Who Will Be Present?
Ask for the names and roles of the interviewers, if possible.

  • Where Will the Interview Be Held?
Know the exact location and allow time to arrive early.

  • How Long Will It Last?
Understanding the typical length will help you pace your responses appropriately.

  • Will There Be a Presentation Component?
    • What format is expected?
    • Will you have access to technology?
    • How long should the presentation be?
    • What is the team hoping to learn from it?

During the Interview

  • At the Start
Let the team know what materials (e.g., resume, portfolio, lesson plans) you’ve brought. Ask how they’d prefer you to share them.

  • Do Not Read from a Script
Unless explicitly asked to do so, avoid reading a prepared presentation word-for-word. Speak naturally and authentically.

  • Focus on the Questions
Make sure you understand what is being asked. Stay on topic and address the specific question, especially if it has multiple parts.

  • Ask for Clarification When Needed
If a question is unclear or complex, it's perfectly acceptable to ask for it to be repeated.

  • Take a Moment to Think
Interview teams appreciate thoughtful responses. Take a brief pause if needed, and feel free to jot down a few key words before answering.

  • Be Specific
Support your answers with relevant examples from your experiences. Avoid vague statements or overly long stories.

  • Expect Follow-up Questions
Interviewers may probe deeper to better understand your thinking or decision-making. View this as an opportunity to elaborate and demonstrate your insight.
