Morse elected vice-president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation

Past president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, Shelley Morse, was elected vice president of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF) today at its 2018 Annual General Meeting held in Edmonton, Alberta July 11-13.

“I am honoured to be elected as part of a collective voice for all teachers in Canada. I look forward to working with other teacher leaders across Canada in advocating for teachers, classrooms and public education, ” she says.

Morse was one of four CTF vice-presidents elected on Friday for one-year terms. This is her third term as a CTF vice-president. She previously served during the 2014-15 and 2016-17 school years. As a vice-president, she will serve on the Executive for the organization and deal with key issues and resolutions that have an impact on public education, students and teachers, nationally and internationally.

In the fall, Morse will be starting a new teaching assignment. She recently relinquished her role as vice-principal at Aldershot Elementary because of administrators being removed from the NSTU. She will be working as a guidance counsellor for both Aldershot and Glooscap elementary schools.

Founded in 1920, the CTF is a national alliance of provincial and territorial Member organizations that represent over a quarter million teachers across Canada. The CTF is also a member of Education International.
