This year’s Education Week will take place from May 9 to 15, 2021.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown of schools, last year’s Education Week did not take place. Last year’s recipients received a letter from the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development informing them that their contributions would be honoured in 2021.

An award ceremony recognizing recipients was to have taken place virtually on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m.  In light of the current COVID-19 lockdown including the shutdown of schools a decision was made to postpone this year’s Education Week Virtual Ceremony. The provincial Eduation Week committee plans to move this virtual  ceremony to the fall of 2021.

Within the coming weeks, recipients will receive their Education Week certificates and pins via mail.

We will still be acknowledging Education Week 2021 and the theme: Student Well-Being = Success/Bien être des élèves = réussite during the week of May 9 to 15, 2021.

Education Week is a special opportunity for the education community to acknowledge educators, school support staff and partners for their outstanding work in helping students learn and adopt healthy lifestyles that support their physical and mental growth and development. Helping students in their cognitive, socio-emotional and physical development are key to well-being, which supports success and achievement in school, and helps students be active members of their communities.

The awards ceremony is made possible through collaborative efforts of the following education partners – Nova Scotia Teachers Union, Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority, Council on African Canadian Education, the Council on Mi'kmaq Education, la Fédération des parents acadiens de la Nouvelle-Écosse, Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Nova Scotia Federation of Home & School Associations, and the Public-School Administrators Association of Nova Scotia. The Teachers Plus Credit Union is a long-standing corporate sponsor of the event.

The chair of the committee rotates between the partners. This year, Angela Murray, NSTU’s Public Relations Coordinator is chairing the committee. For further information please email: pr@nstu.ca.
