The NSTU Leadership Skills Development Institute is the NSTU primary vehicle for providing focused leadership training for its members, developed in response to the changing needs of the organization as our demographic shifts from late to early career teachers. Approximately 175 delegates partake in the training each year, participating in a choice of 20 different sessions. The structure allows members to partake in sessions relative to their individual leadership requirements.
The NSTU Leadership Skills Development Institute is scheduled for Aug. 17-19 at St. Francis Xavier University. As was the case over the last few years, participants will be housed at Governor’s Hall and sessions will take place at the Millenium Centre.
Each local has eight spots to be filled by delegates approved by their Local President. Every Professional Association can send one delegate. Provincial Executive and RRC are also encouraged to attend.
The structure of Leadership remains a “curriculum based model” which allows members to select sessions which meet their individual leadership needs. This is a great opportunity for new members of your local executive, committees and school reps to participate in this skills development institute. Please see attached agenda.
This year we will be continuing with a Leadership Renewal Program for returning members that have completed the current 3-year program. It willl be comprised of information sessions related to current Union issues that change from year to year. Delegates would be part of a Local’s delegation of eight members and be limited to two per local.
Each Professional Association may send one delegate. That delegate can attend the Renewal Program if they have completed the 3-year program or the association can send a new delegate to start the current program.
Locals/Professional Associations will be charged a fee based on the structure below for delegates attending the Leadership Skills Development Institute:

|Locals/Professional Associations between 300-499||$200/delegate|
|Locals/Professional Associations less than 300||$100/delegate|
|RRC Executive (not members of Local Executive)||$300/delegate|
|RRC Chairs/Local Treasurers||no fees|
